Day three - Isle of Capri.

We slept well from the previous day's walk, knees not playing up to badly.
Today was a ferry trip over to Capri the forecast for Amalfi weather was rain in the afternoon, Capri clear and sunny all day.
The ferry leaves from the town quay giving good views of Amalfi

And the little villages along the coast

The Isle of Capri we could see in the sunshine along the coast

We stopped off in Positano to collect more passengers

Then we left the shelter of the Amalfi peninsula and cut across to Capri

Passing under cliff where Villa Jovis sits

We were soon in Marina Grande

And the bustle of the main route on and off the island, our destination was the funicular railway to take us to Capri town. We were soon gaining ascent and views down into the harbour

In the square of Piazzo Umberto we saw no jet setters!

We now wander the alleys window shopping at some very expensive items

We came out in a small square that was bustling with tourists

We got our bearings and found the way to Villa Jovis passing some very swanky shops and restaurants.

Once we left the commercial aspect of Capri we were walking on narrow streets that only electric vehicles had access to delivery and collect goods. There were views up to Villa Jovis.

On gaining height we could look back to the Amalfi peninsula

And down into Marina Piccola

Villa Jovis was Tiberius' main Capri residence, this is a vast complex now reduced to ruins.

It's hard to do justice to the size of the residence.
We walked down back into the outskirts of Capri town and turned off to view the Arco Naturale and then onto the Grotta di Matermania, a natural cave with traces of ancient wall paintings going back to the Roman period.

We then had a climb to a to a path that turns into a paved road giving striking views over the sea.
The last part of the paved path brings to a terrace overlooking the renowned Faraglioni, three sea stacks which are the symbol of the island.

It was then a gentle walk back into Capri town

And views over the sea

We were soon in the piazza Umberto which was quieter than in the morning

K

A return trip on the funicular took us back to Marina Grande.

As we headed back to Positano the weather looked very bleak

Our arrival in Amalfi was no better it was just starting to rain as we berthed

We had had a fantastic day on Capri.
