Continuation of Two Men a Beer and a Good Idea
Well after a year off with no blog. We walked the Rob Roy Way, but conditions and weather weren't perfect.Allan had the bright idea that the Amalfi Coast might be a better idea.
Trip booked Easyjet flights arranged what can go wrong?
We slipped down to Luton on Friday evening, stayed in the Ibis at the airport, early start, walked to the terminal, check in was a dream. Security was different, we just got through and had only 10 minutes before the gate closed.
Good flight, Naples was easy, found the bus to Sorento. The bus to Amalfi was in but full, so time to retire to a cafe for a pizza and a beer.
Caught the 14.00 bus, arrival due ~70 mins in Amalfi.
The first half we whizzed along the Amalfi corniche, so pleased I wasn't driving, closing in on a bus in front. Two buses close together was too much for this winding road and Italian traffic. The last quarter took over an hour, as we struggled to get past the oncoming traffic. Lots of horns, backing up, the girls in a Fiat 500 behind very agitated as the driver was backing and not seeing them!
A police whistle and some direction and we arrived in the square two hours after our departure!
Easy walk past the cathedral to our hotel. Fabulous location, time for a very British cup of tea and inspection of the information pack that had been left in our room.
This digested, we then had a walk through the town, the information suggests just following your nose and exploring this we did.
We headed out back down to the harbour catching the light as the sun slipped behind the western promontory.
We then wandered back into the town. Finding some very odd little corners.
Too early for dinner we did some addition reading and selected the restaurant for the evening, on the seafront highly recommended.
A walk through town and out into the main square just as the sun went down,
The correct dinner came and was excellent, along with a very fine bottle of Ravello red wine.
We then wandered back to our hotel, capturing the cathedral steps, and another stairway.
Time to retire after a very early start in Luton, there are just sprinkles falling as we close the shutters!
